One PhD position and one postdoctoral position are open in the
Theory Department (http://www.fhi-berlin.mpg.de/th/th.html)
at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin, Germany.

The research projects concern the development of new computational methods
for multiscale simulations of chiral monolayers at metal surfaces. The
first goal is to develop novel approaches for an accurate treatment of
molecule--surface and molecule--molecule interactions (e.g., van der Waals
forces, hydrogen bonding, etc.). The second is to link electronic
structure calculations to kinetic Monte Carlo simulations to include
ensemble and time-scale effects and enable fully ab initio treatment of
configurational and vibrational entropy. These projects are tightly
integrated into European Marie Curie project "SMALL" (Surfaces for Molecular
Recognition at the Atomic Level) and will be carried out in close
collaboration with leading experimental groups.

Applicants for the PhD position should hold a Master or equivalent degree (PhD
for the postdoc position), and should have a strong background in physics,
physical chemistry or theoretical chemistry. Experience in programming
(Fortran, C/C++) and strong interest in multidisciplinary research are
essential.

We offer competitive salary and attractive working environment in one of the
most exciting cities in Europe.

For more information and applications contact: Dr. Alexandre Tkatchenko
<tkatchen-at-fhi-berlin.mpg.de> or Dr. Xinguo Ren <xinguo-at-fhi-berlin.mpg.de>.
