Postdoctoral position Université Pierre et Marie Curie - Paris 6

A postdoctoral position (2+1 years) will be available starting Fall
2009 in the "Quantum Theory of Material" group under the
responsibility of Prof. Francesco Mauri and Dr. Michele Lazzeri. The
monthly net salary will range between 2169 and 2527 euros depending on
the candidate experience.

The research project concerns the theoretical description of the
combined electronic and thermal transport properties of graphene,
carbon nanotubes, and semiconductor nanotructures. The goal is to use
first-principles electronic-structure calculations to develop a
parameter-free computational approach to describe: 1) the problem of
heat dissipation and thermal management during electronic trasport in
nanoelectronics, and 2) the problem of nanomaterial design for the
development of new thermoelectric materials with high-ZT to be used
for renewable-energy conversion.

A list of selected publications of the group on carbon-based materials
is available here: http://www.impmc.jussieu.fr/~lazzeri/carbon.html

Applicants with a background in electronic structure calculations
(density functional theory) or electrical/thermal transport or
mesoscopic physics are encouraged to apply.

There is no deadline. Consideration of candidates will begin
immediately and continue until the position is filled.

We have an opening for a postdoctoral fellow starting Sept. 2009 or earlier in the field of electronic structure calculations for correlated materials, in a collaboration between B. Amadon (CEA Bruyeres-le-Chatel) and S. Biermann (Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau, France).
The postdoctoral researcher will use dynamical mean field theory combined with band structure techniques ("LDA+DMFT") to investigate the electronic structure of oxide and f-electron materials.
We are seeking a fellow who is interested in both, methodological developments and applications to materials. Applicants should be familiar with first principles electronic structure calculations. Previous experience with many-body techniques will be a very positive point.
Please send your CV, a brief description of your research interests, and the names of at least two referees to silke.biermann-at-polytechnique.edu
