Atomic-level study of lattice dislocations in perovskite oxides

 

The Institute for Reliability of Systems and Devices (IZBS) of the University of Karlsruhe has an immediate opening for a PhD/Postdoc position in the field of atomistic materials modeling and simulation.

The work is part of a collaborative project funded by the German Research Foundation between the University of Karlsruhe, Max-Planck Institute for Metals Research in Stuttgart and Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials in Freiburg. The project aims to investigate the structure and energetics of dislocations in ceramic oxide materials with mixed ionic-covalent bonding (perovskite oxides) by means of atomistic simulations, electronic-structure calculations, and transmission electron microscopy.

We are looking for candidates with background in the fields of physics, chemistry, or materials science. Applicants should have a PhD degree or an academic degree equivalent to German University diploma or master degree. Experience with electronic structure calculations, atomistic modeling and numerical computer simulations of materials presents a strong advantage. Scientific curiosity, ability for team work, and excellent English communication skills are expected.
