A PhD position is available at the Department of Physics and Materials
Science, Uppsala University, Sweden, in the area of theoretical-computational
materials physics.


The topic of the PhD work is investigations of magneto-optical mechanisms of
fast magnetization processes in magnetic materials. The research work includes
development of theoretical models and computer programs for optical control of
magnetization. Density-functional theory (DFT) programs will be used for
accurate description of magnetic materials. The research will be conducted in a
European project (EU-ITN “FANTOMAS”) together with both experimental and
theoretical researchers from various countries.


We are looking for an excellent, strongly motivated candidate with a
background in theoretical-computational materials science. Excellent exam
marks are considered an asset. Good communicational skills, both orally and
in written English, and experience with code develop are desirable, and also
the capability to work independently as well as in a project team. The PhD
work includes travel to other European groups within the collaboration.
