Post-doctoral Research Associate in Theoretical Surface Science

The London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN) invites applications for one or =
more post-doctoral research associates in the field of electronic structure=
 theory.=20

The LCN is a new UK-based multidisciplinary research centre, purpose-built =
to enable work at the forefront of science and technology. The LCN brings t=
ogether two of the world's leading institutions, namely University College =
London (UCL) and Imperial College London, with strong capabilities in the u=
nderlying disciplines - engineering, physical sciences and biomedicine - wh=
ich are bridged by nanotechnology.=20

The project involves the development and application of first principles te=
chniques to the investigation of chemical reactions at metal surfaces. The =
appointee will work in the ICE group at UCL ? www.chem.ucl.ac.uk/ice - head=
ed by Dr Angelos Michaelides.=20

An experienced candidate with a PhD in theoretical chemistry, theoretical p=
hysics or a closely related discipline is sought. The candidate must have a=
proven track-record (through publications in high profile journals) in the=
application and/or development of electronic structure techniques, in part=
icular density-functional theory (DFT), and preferably to problems in surfa=
ce chemistry and catalysis. Experience with path integrals and/or high perf=
ormance computing architectures is also highly desirable.

The post is available immediately, with an initial appointment of 1 year, a=
lthough extensions will be possible upon mutual agreement. Appointment will=
be made within the salary range =A327,466-=A329,138 plus London allowance =
=A32,649 p.a. (October pay award pending)

Applications, including a cover letter, application form, CV, list of publi=
cations, and the name and addresses of at least two referees, and quoting r=
ef. no. AM/01/08, can be sent by regular mail to:=20
