Multiscale materials modelling for phase-change memories (Ref. S91N1475)

Circa £30,000 per annum

Fixed-term contract for 2 years and 6 months, with the possibility of a further extension

The School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics (SECaM) is seeking to recruit a full-time post-doctoral researcher to join a team working on an EPSRC project developing future memory technologies. A particular aim is to investigate the use of phase-change materials to provide random access memory (PCRAM).

The aim of the project is to develop and apply a range of modelling techniques to investigate the electronic, optical, structural and phase-switching behaviour of phase-change materials such as GeSbTe alloys. The modelling work will feed from and into experimental time-resolved femtosecond laser studies performed by project collaborators in Exeter's School of Physics.

The successful applicant will have a first degree in physics, mathematics, engineering, computing or a related discipline, and will hold, or be about to complete, a PhD in theoretical or computational physics, chemistry, material sciences or engineering. Experience of one of the following areas would be welcome (i) time dependent Density Functional Theory, (ii) phase-transition processes in phase-change alloys, (iii) multi-scale materials modelling. The post is available immediately with a mutually agreeable start date.
