Post Doctoral Researcher Position available at TU Delft

Project Description
The modern theory of alloy design is applied to the phase stability of carbonitrides in steels. Carbonitrides form a great variety of structures in steel and alloying elements can strongly affect the occurrence, structure type and morphology. Theoretical approaches based on electronic density functional theory and elementary statistical thermodynamics are used to understand the effect of common alloying elements on the relative thermodynamic stability and the competition between carbide structures with the objective to advance the modelling of the microstructure and physical properties of steels during processing and during actual use.
Job Profile
The applicant for the Post-doc position is expected to have:
?	a PhD degree or equivalent in Materials Sience, Physics, or Chemistry with a graduate level background in quantum mechanics, thermodynamics and elementary solid state physics or metallurgy;
?	Scientific curiosity and ability to perform computational research in a unix/linux environment is highly desirable;
?	good written and oral communication skills in English.
The vacancy is located at Delft University of Technology in Delft.
Conditions of Employment
When fulfilling a Post-doc position at the M2i, the candidate will be given an employee status. He/she will be eligible for all employee benefits offered by the M2i. The contract is for 3 years. Salary: up to 3000 euro/month.
Application Procedure
All applicants are asked to submit a Curriculum Vitae, a list of grades of their graduate studies, publications, and a statement of purpose. These documents shall be sent to: hrm-at-m2i.nl with referring to vacancy: ?MC5.06263 - Alloy optimization through modelling stability of carbonitrides and carbosulphides in steel?.
More details can be obtained by sending an e-mail to M.H.F.Sluiter-at-tudelft.nl or at http://www.m2i.nl/.
Please note that the deadline to apply for this vacancy is 30 June 2008.
