              NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MATERIALS SCIENCE, TSUKUBA, JAPAN

We would like to encourage young motivated individuals, who has the
strong interest in first-principles electronic structure calculations
for large systems and/or the physics of complex oxide materials to
apply for a postdoctoral research position in the First-Principles
Simulation Group II at the National Institute for Materials Science
in Tsukuba, Japan.

The First-Principles Simulation Group II currently includes five
permanent members: T. Sasaki, K. Kobayashi, M. Arai, S. Suehara, and
I.V. Solovyev. The current topics of research interests cover the
first-principles calculations and materialogy of complex oxide
materials, carbon nanotubes, and other compounds. Some details can

The position will be available for one year, starting from
October 2008, and can be extended for another year.

Although it is relatively flexible, the newly appointed researchers
will be involved in one of the following projects:

(1) Magnetism of nano-materials, such as molecular magnets, etc.
(2) Realistic modeling of strongly-correlated systems: namely,
      construction and solution of various models on the basis of
      first-principles calculations.
(3) The lattice dynamics and/or the properties related to the
      electron-phonon coupling.
(4) The relationship between the bulk properties of materials and
      the their structure

Tsukuba is the newly developed scientific city located in just 60 km
north to Tokyo (and now connected with Tokyo by the fast express train).

The interested candidate should submit the curriculum vitae, list
of publications, a brief description of research experience and
