Since March 2022, I am also an extraordinary professor in the astronomy group of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of the Western Cape.

Note: there are two types of emails I receive sufficiently frequently that I am providing generic responses here:

• If you are a high school student who is interested in astronomy, please be aware that I do not mentor high school students in research, even on an unpaid basis. Instead, I would encourage you to (a) learn to code, especially in Python, so that you will be better prepared for any future research opportunities; (b) maintain a habit of recreational reading (in any genre), so that your own writing will become stronger and more instinctive; and (c) apply to Rutgers for college, so that you can take advantage of all the excellent educational resources that exist here!
• If you are a current or former undergraduate student who is considering applying to Rutgers for graduate school, you can check this page in mid-October to determine whether I (and/or my other faculty colleagues) will be open to taking to taking a new student starting the following September. Information about my research interests can be found on this web page; I am not available to discuss specific projects with students before they have been admitted, although I am certainly happy to do so after they have been admitted.
